['Rough'; yes, she guesses that's as good a word for it as anything else. Rough, and incredibly awkward, now that Finch is back... though she's been as careful as possible to avoid bringing him up at all.]

What sort of gathering? [It sounds like it could be a good distraction, if nothing else.]

One of non-Loyalist mages, for food, drink, and support. We don't... really have structure and that's a good thing, but we could use a community and I'd like to see one form. All of us could use knowing that they're not alone.

[Especially when it's cold out. Especially especially when they've lost someone precious.]

[To know they're not alone--that promise holds tremendous sway over her, especially now. Fern grows quiet--well, quieter--as she considers what he's offering.]

I don't, [a pause, as she tries to form the question that's just out of reach for the moment,] I mean, I don't really know much about politics... I mean, I know about the war, of course, but.. [Her words taper off uncertainly.]

There's not going to be politics.

[His voice is gentle.]

It's for non-Loyalists because the Loyalists already have a community with a shared goal, and they've the support of each other, the Templars, and the Chantry. Those who want to stay free don't have a support network. A lot of mages are trying to make it on our own and we don't have to. You can come and be you, and talk with other mages who are being themselves.

[Silence is the only response for the moment. Fern twists the crystal absently between her fingers. Then,]

All right, I'll go. [Then, with a little smile,] I should probably let my mentor know I'm going though. She might even come with me.

I'm glad to hear it. I didn't know you had a mentor; who is it?

[He said non-Loyalist mages, he's going to trust she's in that category and wonder if it's someone he's already convinced to come.]

Nell Voss, [she answers absently; the sounds coming through the crystal indicate that she is--finally--getting herself out of bed for the day.] Do you know her?

[There's amused surprise in his voice.]

The mage who told me that teaching wasn't a priority? Yes, we've spoken briefly.

[More than briefly, but there needs to be a show of distance there.]

She--oh. [Fern blinks, startled by this; it runs so counter to how attentive Nell has been while instructing her in magic.] Well... would you mind if she came too?

I don't mind. I've actually reached out to her but I've yet to hear back.
